Falls Prevention Screening
The BodyCheck Screen is an innovative and proactive musculoskeletal (MSK) and mobility screen aimed at detecting joint, muscle and balance (falls risk) issues in advance of them causing further injury for those over 60 years of age.
Once your screen has been completed, you will receive a fully personal report that will contain an MSK score out of 100, a falls risk score, and targeted advice around each of the areas screened. The screen is a covered benefit under the Vhi Joint Care Programme and delivered by Chartered Physiotherapists, using a handheld tablet and QTug technology to examine a number of areas over the course of screen including;

Simple Mobility Tests
The BodyCheck Screen will assess the risk of a fall through a number of simple balance and mobility tests which would include a squat and lunge among other simple movements.
Covered Benefit under Vhi
The BodyCheck screen is fully covered or partially covered for many Vhi Customers under the Joint Care Programme. Remember to have your Vhi membership number to hand when calling to make your booking.
Follow up Therapy Service
Depending on your score you may be:
· Recommended app based exercises for home
· Have targeted sessions with a Physiotherapist and/or
· A rescreen within 12 months

Impact of Falls
Falls in those over 65 leads to an increase in the risk of hospitalisation and a significant health decline. As well as physical injuries suffered, the psychological and social consequences of falling can have an equally huge impact. People who fall may suffer depression, anxiety, isolation and loss of independence. The direct and indirect societal costs of falls are enormous, with the healthcare costs alone in Ireland about €500 million annually. Recurrent falls often result in long term care.
However, the number of falls in Ireland can be reduced by increasing awareness of falls risks. This is where BodyCheck will help by improving the accuracy in assessing falls risk and mobility, resulting in more targeted “best in class” clinical interventions.

Q1. How can I book BodyCheck?

Q2. Where will the screening take place?
The screening will take place in any of our 23 clinics across Ireland.
Q3. How long will the screening take?
The whole appointment will take 30 minutes which includes your screening and consultation.
Q4. Is there any application forms to complete?
Yes you will be provided with a pre-screening form via email.
Q5. Is there any exercises I will need to do?
Yes you will be required to do a 3 metre walk and attempt a number of other exercises including squats, lunges, standing on a single leg, and shoulder mobility (hand behind back/head).
Q6. Do I receive a report after the screen?
Yes, you will receive a full report after the screening.
Q7. Is there any follow up care
High risk patients will be provided with three follow up physiotherapy sessions which can be booked at their convenience at a clinic location of their choice.
Q8. How much is the screening?
The screening is €80 but covered or partially covered by Vhi under the Joint Care Programme, a member of our team will be able to assist you on this during your booking call.
