Robert Sutherland, Chartered Physiotherapist
Qualifications & Education
Having returned to College later in life, following my career as a dancer and choreographer, to study BSc Physiotherapy in Huddersfield University. On completion of the course I joined HCPC and Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and remained a member untill leaving the country. I completed several courses at different universities and used this and my clinical experience to mentor and educate students and junior staff in the clinical setting.
I took a very different approach to the course than many of my peers, working to understand all of the fields equally. This mentality followed me through my career that started in St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals. Here I consolidated my practice in a variety of settings from Intensive care, inpatient rehabilitation through to Musculoskeletal Clinical Assessment Service and Domiciliary rehabilitation. I then transferred to Stockport Foundation Trust to learn further more diverse therapeutic Methods.
After spending a brief period in a government assessment unit, determining the functional ability of the clients I started working for a flagship private neurological disability hospital whilst simultaneously working as a physiotherapist for Chester Rugby Club.
Whilst at the club and progressed to being the lead physiotherapist for the Cheshire County Teams and becoming the senior physiotherapist at the club supporting and supervising junior members of the team to be able to advance and progress their career.
Now I utilise this diverse knowledge and understanding to complete a truly holistic therapy process that has the person firmly positioned in the centre ensuring their needs are heard, understood and this progresses their therapeutic journey.
I am a keen cyclist and rock climber, this works beautifully together riding through the mountains to find a nice spot to boulder. However, my passion will always be in dancing both social and stage dancing.
