Qualifications & Education
A former international athlete, Velta is a fully licensed and insured Chartered Physiotherapist with membership of the ISCP (Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists).
She obtained her Bachelor degree for rehabilitation science and physiotherapy at the esteemed Riga Stradins University in Latvia. As an experienced athlete, Velta is passionate about treating sports injuries and musculoskeletal pain, especially low back, neck and shoulder pain.
Velta has a wealth of experience in musculoskeletal and paediatric physiotherapy. She is skilled in the management of sports injuries and sports performance. She served as physiotherapist in the Latvian championship-winning handball team for 3 years, dealing with injuries and mobility problems, and helping athletes to reach their physical peak. Velta has specialised training in the following areas:
- medical taping
- dry needling
- soft tissue and joint pathologies
- sports physiotherapy and massage
- paediatric respiratory, musculoskeletal, and neurological care (e.g. asthma, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and stroke)
- ergonomics for injury prevention in the office environment
Velta helps patients to fulfil their unique personal goals by combining manual treatment and exercise for faster, effective rehabilitation.
A keen sports enthusiast, Velta fell in love with Olympic handball in her home country of Latvia. She played for the Latvian national team during an extremely successful career that spanned 14 years, and has won multiple national championship titles. She now plays for Dublin’s leading handball team.
A big promoter of getting out and being active, Velta spends her spare time running, cycling, and exploring the Dublin Mountains. She is driven to ensure each of her patients receives the best possible care, and stays abreast of all advances in the field, being a member of the Musculoskeletal Therapy Group, the Sports and Exercise Medicine Special Interest Group, and the Paediatric Group in the ISCP.
