Temporary Orthotics are off-the shelf orthopaedic insoles which may be recommended by one of our Biomechanical Specialists to test a person’s suitability for custom made orthotics.
As part of our Biomechanics & Orthotics service, we regular use temporary orthotics to get the exact prescription and level of correction that works for you. It is very easy to alter a temporary insole to get the prescription “just right” prior to the expense of a custom made and in some cases the custom made may not be needed following a period of wearing the temporary one. In most cases a temporary insole is used for 4 to 6 weeks to prepare the body for the custom made and to alleviate symptoms while the body is rehabilitating. In severe cases it is also used to relive pain while awaiting the custom made.
The Chartered Physiotherapist will usually prescribe stretches and exercises while using temporary insoles in order to maximise the bodies potential before prescribing custom made orthotics, to ensure the minuimum correction is needed.
