What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy is a unique, holistic, gentle, hands-on, multidimensional approach to pain relief and healing that has achieved remarkable results globally over the past 30 years. It specialises on rebalancing the body through the nervous system and the fascia.
What is the fascia?
Under a microscope the fascia resembles a spider web which binds cells together. It surrounds and protects every living cell that makes up tissue, muscles, ligaments and tendons. The fascia runs from the top of the head to the toe tips. It has no end and can be found everywhere in the body and connected to every cell. In a healthy body the fascia is dynamic, fluid like, relaxed and pliable providing cushioning and a support mechanism to allow optimum bodily movement.
Following an emotional or physical trauma the affected fascia hardens, thus restricting movement through the associated muscle groups. This causes the fascia network to lose its dynamic fluid-like structure creating stiffness, tension and imbalance, thus causing restriction in the tissues.
Bowen Therapy has a very important role to play in the health care of women during and after pregnancy. Also Baby Bowen can help alleviate ‘colic’ in babies.
Bowen Therapy is so gentle that it can be used on new born babies and the frail and elderly with amazing results
What is the Bowen Technique?
The Bowen Technique consists of a series of specific, gentle ‘moves’ across tendons, muscles and ligaments throughout the body followed by short rest periods to allow the moves be assimilated.
