Respiratory Services
We have a number of Private Respiratory services, including:
- Private Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Acute Respiratory Programme
- Asthma Programme
Private Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program
The Adult Pulmonary Rehabilitation is aimed at the chronic respiratory patient following surgery or with inherent pulmonary disease. Close communication with the referring consultant or GP will be maintained to ensure individual treatment protocols within safe limits.
The Physio Company offers a private Respiratory Care Service, which is carried out by a Chartered Physiotherapist on a one to one basis. There is no waiting list and as it is not a class situation, the risk of cross infection is minimised.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a multidimensional offering of services directed to people with pulmonary disease and their families. The aims of pulmonary rehabilitation are to:
- reduce symptoms
- decrease disability
- increase participation in physical and social activities, and
- improve the overall quality of life for patients with chronic respiratory disease.
Physiotherapy has a major role in providing patient and family education, exercise training, and outcome assessment. The rehabilitation intervention is always adapted toward the unique needs of each patient.
All programmes are intensive, private, one-on-one sessions with our Chartered Respiratory Physiotherapists. This service is available in our Temple Bar clinic 7 days per week. Therefore, if you feel that you would benefit from avoiding hospital waiting lists and commencing immediate care with us, or whether you prefer a private, fully individualized service, please consider our respiratory care programmes.
Acute Respiratory Programme
The Acute Respiratory Physiotherapy Programme is aimed at the acute productive Respiratory Tract Infection patient. It is suitable for both paediatric and adult patients. Consultation will be on referral only, with assessment and treatment targeting sputum clearance, breathing exercises and education.
This program follows current international guidelines of best practice in respiratory rehabilitation. It is run by Chartered Physiotherapists only, and in close conjunction with each patient's GP and/or respiratory consultant. The acute respiratory programme is particularly beneficial for those with a stubborn or chronic chest infection, which is proving difficult to shift. In addition it is suitable for patients with a chronic chest condition (e.g. bronchitis) who are experiencing an acute attack.
The program involves a battery of reliable and valid outcome measures used to assess and monitor progress throughout treatment. A variety of manual techniques, breathing techniques, and suctioning techniques will be utilized to optimise sputum/phlegm clearance. In addition where appropriate nebulisers can be used which can aid in clearing the chest more quickly.
Every case is individual and will need to be tailored to your specific needs. For patients with ongoing conditions many of the techniques can be taught to carry out at home, and we can provide current medical information on your condition. This service is available in our Temple Bar clinic 7 days per week.
Asthma Programme
The Paediatric and Adult Asthma Programmes are aimed at the chronic asthmatic patient and are focused on improving quality of life through improvement of exercise capacity, education and acute attack protocols.
