Sports Massage
If you want an effective, high quality deep tissue or sports massage then we can help. However, if you want hot stones or aromatherapy, may we suggest that we are not the right place for you!
Why go to a physio for a massage?
Well, why wouldn’t you. We do not employ Massage Therapists as we feel Chartered Physiotherapists (all of whom have university degrees, 1000 hours of clinical placement, lot’s and lot’s of post-grad experience) understand the body better than anyone else. Chartered Physiotherapy is much more than massage but we do offer a highly effective deep tissue and a sports massage service.
OK, so why us?
All of our physios are trained to be able to perform a variety of deep tissue techniques that will significantly assist in the daily function of affected muscles. Our team’s treatment strategy effectively relieves areas of pain and tension while also ensuring that the pressure applied is not overly uncomfortable for the client. Your comfort is a priority. Our Physio will also ensure that all of our patients know how they can manage their tension throughout the week, and help avoid a recurrence of their problems.
What is a sports massage?
Sports massage is a technique particularly effective in patients with muscle overuse issues or for sportspeople who before or after a big game or run. Sports massage can be used for many different or reasons but mainly in treatment of Sport Injuries and for sports preparation and recovery.
Depending on the reason for giving massage and the type of massage used, this treatment can be given to stimulate circulation, aid drainage, mobilise the soft tissues, or to produce a sedative effect. Massage can benefit most people providing there are no contraindications present. Massage can be used for many different conditions, including:
- Anxiety and depression
- Back conditions
- Headaches
- Long term illness
- Lower limb problems
- Musculo-skeletal (muscle and bone) disorders
- Neck problems
- Neurological conditions
- Plastic surgery
- Respiratory disorders
- Sports injury
- Sports preparation
- Sports recovery
- Stress
- Terminal illness
- Upper limb problems
- and many more.
It is when Massage is used as part of an overall treatment that the benefit of Physiotherapy is really seen. Often Massage will be used as part of Manipulative Therapy which is the skilful restoration of mobility to soft tissues and joints using a variety of massage, Manipulation and mobilisation.
