The Physio Company runs a number of clinical classes which are instructed by our Chartered Physiotherapists. The three classes that are conducted are for Osteoporosis, Posture Rehab and for Pilates. The classes are as follows:
Pilates
Our Clinical Pilates classes will be conducted by Chartered Physiotherapists in our clinics in Patricks Quay & Mallow, Cork.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a mat based form of exercise which is low impact in nature and uses gentle resistance to both strengthen and lengthen the muscles of the whole body but with special emphasis on strengthening the core.
Our Physios offer both APPI and STOTT Pilates.
What is the difference between APPI and STOTT Pilates?
STOTT Pilates is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates which incorporates scientific research and modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and effective methods available. It’s used by rehabilitating patients, back pain patients, athletes and everyone in between.
APPI Pilates is designed by Physiotherapists specifically for use in a rehabilitation setting. It is based on segmental spinal stabilization research from the University of Queensland Australia. The APPI method has a broad application and is suitable for use in Orthopaedic care, women’s health, low back pain, high level athletic settings and as an effective method of toning, improving posture and injury prevention.
Pilates is suitable for all ages from 8-80 years and all levels of activity.

Our classes are designed for men and women of all ages to help relieve chronic back pain, decrease stress levels, improve posture and coordination, and improve your sporting performance. Posture Rehabilitation Class
Our Posture Rehabilitation classes are taught by Chartered Physiotherapist Siobhan O’ Donovan. The classes will take place in Nemo Rangers Football & Hurling Club, South Douglas Road, Cork & Patrick’s Quay , Cork City.
Our classes are designed for men and women who suffer from poor posture due to poor muscle tone and weakened core. The result of this is often back and neck pain, and discomfort while performing everyday tasks. We have classes to suit all levels of ability and ages.
Aim of the class
Our classes are centred on creating a strong core to help you recover from back or neck problems by improving the supporting muscles. For athletes, core strength can also improve the generation of power from your legs and arms, which in turn improves general performance.
Our classes include advice on how to move and sit in everyday life, such as while at a computer or while hovering and lifting, in order to minimise your chance of injury. The classes involve non-impact exercises with progressions built into the courses.

Osteoperosis Classes
Our osteoporosis classes are run by a Chartered Physiotherapist in our clinic in Patrick’s Quay, Cork City. They are designed to improve bone density and reduce the risk of falls. They focus on posture, balance and strengthening; all key areas in the management of osteoporosis. Weightbearing and strengthening exercises can impact bone growth by slowing the rate at which it weakens or even improving it. The classes are small (up to 8 people) to allow for individual attention.
Beginners classes: concentrate on the basic exercises and techniques. On completing the classes you should have a good knowledge on what exercises may be harmful to you.
Improvers classes: build on what you have learnt and help to progress your exercises in a safe way.
