Dancing Injuries

Despite dancers best intentions to protect themselves against injury through vigorous warm ups and building up muscle strength, injuries can still occur. The majority of dancing injuries are caused by overuse as opposed to any sort of trauma. Performing specific daily stretches which are tailor made for your type of dancing (be it Irish dancing, ballet or hip hop among others) can improve your skills and reduce injuries.

Dancing is a sport which involves high force passing through the joints and higher than average flexibility at many joints.  As a result it is common for a wide variety of injuries to occur in those associated with dancing.  Common ailments include ankle sprains, achilles tendinopathy, shin splints, and low back pain. However many other muscle strains, joint and ligament sprains, and joint pains are possible due to the enormous variations in styles of dance and routines.

It is important to address dance injuries correctly, as continuation of regular practice while injured can cause far more serious injuries with longterm implications.
